Revd. Matthew Knox, Priest in Charge of Tweedmouth, Spittal and Scremerston, swapped his dog collar for a week to take part in the Holiday Club sponsored by Churches Together in Berwick.
The Holiday Club catered for children from 4- to 9-years-old and was principally aimed at children in Scremerston, for whom there is little provision in the village during the school holidays. The children dressed up as pirates as they explored St Paul's journey and his imprisonment, during which he wrote his famous letters to the people of the Phillippi.
They took part in crafts, stories, games and songs ending with a picnic, to which all the parents and carers were invited. "Although we have run a holiday club in the village for three years now, this particular one proved to be very popular" said Anne Bradley, Churchwarden for St Peter's Scremerston. "We had 18 children each morning and as we were also dressed up as pirates, the stories really came alive and allowed the children to explore this particular section of the Bible in a fun fashion. The children took home things they had made and on the last day the parents were able to experience some of the things that the children had learned." |
